Sometimes the daily grind gets me down, but when I look around me and remember that I'm living in this gorgeous, historic city, it makes even the tedious errands and chores seem pleasant.
Lately I have been trying to leave early enough that I can park at the Savannah Civic Center and walk to work. It's kind of a hike, but it allows me to enjoy quite a few squares and beautiful old houses on my way.
I did these quick pen and ink drawings a while back, and totally forgot I had done them. They're a nice excuse to go sit in the park, and a good exercise for my rusty drawing skills! I am definitely going to be doing more of these when it gets a little warmer out.
This statue features General James Oglethorpe, the founder of Georgia. Mr. Oglethorpe is facing south, towards Spanish Florida, hence the drawn sword. You'd think this monument would be in Oglethorpe Square, but you'd be wrong. For some reason it's actually in Chippewa Square. Random movie fact: The

I love this house! This sketch really doesn't do it justice at all. When I lived by Forsyth Park, I would walk by this house every day on my way to class. I think it deserves a better portrait, so this will be first on my list of plein-air sketching spots.
